After being postponed in 2022 due to the impact of the COVID-19 virus, the biennial WorldSkills Barbados Competition has returned!
This innovative skills competition targets students aged 16 – 21 who are enrolled in public and private Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and provides them with the opportunity to compete and demonstrate their excellence in skilled professions.
This year will see twenty-three (23) finalists representing four (4) local training institutions competing in four (4) skill areas: Automotive technology, Car Painting During, Cooking, Restaurant Service. The competition will run from June 20th – 22nd and June 24th – 25th and will be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and Inchcape Barbados, respectively.
The four institutions being represented include: the Barbados Community College (BCC), Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI), Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB) and the Caribbean Cuisine Culinary Institute (CCCI).
The biennial WSB Competition, which is based on the WorldSkills International Competition, was launched in 2012. Its purpose is to help improve the quality of the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system by promoting skills development and excellence. The national competition is managed by the TVET Council (TVETC), Barbados.
