Server Analyst at INFOTEP, expert, competitor at WorldSkills International (WSI) and one of the trainers for the WorldSkills Barbados Juniors (WSBJ) Future Skills Camp 2022, Nancy Castillo, believes that the WorldSkills programme has changed her life. INFOTEP, The Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (i.e. National Institute for Technical and Vocational Training), is the governing body of the national technical and vocational training system of the Dominican Republic.

Since 2019, the 19-year-old cyber security expert has been training and participating with WSI. “I’ve been training a lot in different areas of knowledge such as programming, networking, security and others,” She stated.

She added: “Since I’ve participated in the WSI competition I’ve been receiving many job offers in this area [i.e. Cyber Security], but INFOTEP gave me the opportunity to work here in the monitoring and security department as server analyst.” Nancy also stated that this experience has introduced her to many people in this skill area who now work by her side.

The young skilled expert shared advice to those interested in pursuing a career in Cyber Security.

“You think that you’re young, but we are never too young to get into something, and you probably think that Cyber Security is a hard thing and a difficult area of technology, but it is not; it is a fun area!”

“It is an area that you improve your skills, and you learn how to protect devices, how to attack and how defend and that makes you a hero. Your skills make you a person that society needs, and we always need that person who knows about that security of everything in this digital world.”
