Flashback: WorldSkills Barbados Juniors (WSBJ) competitor, Kendra Lovell, partaking in the cooking category of the WSBJ 2019 competition.

Plans are well underway for the launch of the inaugural WorldSkills Barbados Champions Committee (WSBCC)!

Former finalists of the WorldSkills Barbados (WSB) and the WorldSkills Barbados Juniors (WSBJ) Competitions as well as participants in the International TVET Youth Forum were given the opportunity to apply to serve on the Committee which is scheduled to be officially launched next week.

The WSBCC, which will consist of nine members, eight of whom have already been selected, will serve as Barbados’ local arm of the WorldSkills Champions Trust, assisting in and serving as a voice for young people in the advocacy of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and the WorldSkills Barbados Programme.

Before being appointed, each member will take part in a week of professional development activities, which takes place from April 4 – 8 and will be facilitated by consultant and former WorldSkills International (WSI) Secretariat member, Alex Musial. The week of activities will include public speaking, story-telling presentations, media training, and much more, which will help members develop their skills and abilities both individually and as a team. The committee will also develop a strategic document to guide the work of the committee in supporting the Council's TVET promotion function.

Along with advocating for young people, the selected members will continue to participate in forums and conferences to hone their skills to effectively represent the talented and dedicated community of WorldSkills Barbados Champions.
