Barbados' WorldSkills Training Squad Selected

Seven (7) candidates have been chosen to be a part of a WorldSkills Training Squad that has begun preparation to represent Barbados at the next WorldSkills Competition, scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China October 12 – 17, 2022.

The 46th WorldSkills Competition was previously scheduled to take place in Shanghai in September 2021 but was rescheduled because of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The seven who were selected from amongst the medallists at the WorldSkills Barbados Competition, which took place in November 2020, achieved the criteria set out for selection to the squad from which Barbados’ representatives at the global WorldSkills Competition will be taken. The criteria included achieving 80% or more in last year’s Competitors Developmental Programme, and, 75% or more in the technical component of the finals of the WorldSkills Barbados Competition.

The candidates will be training to compete in the following skill areas:

Cooking

Jessica Cummins

Daryl Hunte

Kodie Hinds

Shenanke Nedd

Hairdressing

Rachelle Jones

Restaurant Service

Tonquanja Giddings

O’Sheri Vaughan-Dorant

Over the next several months the training squad will undergo further coaching, training and assessment to determine the final members of the Barbados Team to WorldSkills Shanghai 2022.

The Skill Experts for the above skill areas have also been engaged. They are:

Cooking – Chef Peter Edey

Hairdressing – Mrs. Arlette Knight-Olton

Restaurant Service – Mr. Roderick Prescod

As part of the selection process for the training squad, candidate performance reviews took place during March with all seven (7) members of the training squad and the skill experts and training plans are being drawn up for each skill area.
