Let's Talk Skills: Episode 2 is available!

In the latest episode of the WorldSkills Barbados podcast Let's Talk Skills, Technical Officer of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council – also known as TVET Council (TVETC), Barbados, Dario Walcott, discusses ‘All Things TVETC’: what it is, what training institutions the council works with, and much more with WorldSkills Barbados 2020 Champion, Danny Mayers.

During his segment, Mr. Walcott emphasizes the significance of the discipline of TVET in Barbados. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is, simply, education to prepare people – students, job seekers, the employed and the self-employed - for the world of work and business. Also known as workforce training, it includes all programmes and courses that contribute towards the development of the knowledge, technical skills, attitudes, and core skills essential to being competitive in the world of work.

What is meant by core skills?

  • Communications
  • Applying and using numbers
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Problem solving
  • Working with others
  • Improving one’s own learning and performance

Stay tuned for more episodes in this six-part series as the WSB Champions continue to discuss the hot topics in skills development and the discipline of TVET.
